Gougeon 32 Update

Gougeon Manufacturing Corp. continued to fine tune the design and production of the Gougeon 32 sailboat in 1993, adding a sporty, wrap-around window look.

The trailerable epoxy-composite catamaran proved itself a winner on the sailing circuit this year, with Jan Gougeon’s G-32 Pocket Rocket ending the 1992 racing season undefeated for line honors.

In the Port Huron to Mackinaw Singlehanded race, Pocket Rocket placed first despite 30-knot winds, 10-foot seas and unseasonable cold. Only 12 of the 31 original starters finished the race, but the G-32 had no mechanical problems from start to finish.

Pocket Rocket placed first again in the Lake Huron Doublehanded Challenge, completing a 210-mile rhumb line course in 32 hours, 13 minutes. Meade Gougeon’s G-32, Janet C., finished second in that race, and yet another G-32, Wild Card, took fourth in the 57-boat fleet.

Internationally known sailors Walter Green and Jim Rubenstein crewed aboard Pocket Rocket with Jan in the 20th Annual Buzzards Bay Regatta. Racing one long triangular course each day of the event were 267 sailboats in a variety of offshore classes. The 14-boat multihull fleet included four F-27s, three Formula 40s and some larger, wing masted trimarans. Pocket Rocket placed first overall on corrected time.
