About Us

/

Epoxyworks is a magazine by the epoxy-obsessed, for the epoxy-obsessed, featuring building, restoration, and repair projects of all kinds. We share the latest epoxy tips and techniques direct from WEST SYSTEM and proudly showcase the incredible work of our readers. Our goal is to offer inspiration and practical tips for every epoxy project. Epoxyworks is published biannually (spring and fall).

Before Epoxyworks

Since the founding of WEST SYSTEM Epoxy, brothers Meade and Jan Gougeon were always willing to give advice and show the tricks they had learned over their years of developing and working with epoxy. The brothers always believed in providing a helping hand.

In 1977, the brothers, energized by their momentum in the boat-building community, published the first issue of The Boatbuilder. It was an 8-page black & white newsletter about building boats with epoxy, featuring some tips & tricks, and industry news. It was the best way to communicate with their ever-increasing community of epoxy users.

Epoxyworks is Born

As the community grew, so did the publication. We began featuring articles by our readers about their projects and the knowledge they had gained working with epoxy. WEST SYSTEM became an internationally recognized brand with more information to share than ever before. The foundation laid by The Boatbuilder was good, but the publication needed to encompass all types of building, restoration, and repair with epoxy…not just boats.

In September 1992, Epoxyworks debuted as a 24-page magazine. In addition to the technical articles and industry news that were popular in The Boatbuilder, there was now a new section called Readers’ Projects. The addition allowed us to celebrate even more readers from the growing community. The cover feature on that first issue was the restored Whalebone Arch at Christ Church Cathedral in Stanely, Falkland Islands.

In fall of 2002, Epoxyworks got its own dedicated website. Articles were previously part of the WEST SYSTEM website, however this new dedicated website made it easier to search back issues and find relevant topics.

Growing our Community

We love that Epoxyworks provides a platform for us to champion our readers and celebrate our epoxy community. After all these years, it’s still exciting to see the talent within our community featured in every issue.

Though our readership has dwarfed the size of that debut issue, our mission has remained the same. We strive to foster creativity, provide inspiration, and offer factual information to help our readers achieve the highest quality results. Not just one time, but every time.
